California & DOT Agree To Announce Nationwide 2017-25 MPG Rules Sept. 1
California has been a solo rider and green leader when it comes to automobile regulations with their MPG and vehicle emission standards.
After California threatened to propose their own fuel-economy standard for 2017-2025 manufactured cars and trucks, they reached an agreement with the Obama administration to announce their standard at the same time as the national one, September 1st. This will help ensure a nation-wide MPG standard, easing the fears vehicle manufacturers had about having to comply with various states different regulations.
Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said that with the DOT "working together with EPA and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to develop standards for the next generation of clean cars, we can set a standard that works for automakers across the country."
The final standards are expected to be set sometime in 2012.
