Feature: The King Of Civic Si's
Owner Chris Rodriguez wasted no time modifying his 2007 Honda Civic Si. He used to drive a 2002 Honda Civic LX automatic. “The first time I laid eyes on a tuner I fell in love with it; it was on the cover of an import tuner magazine,” said Rodriguez. He started attending car shows, and joined a car club then he decided to better his ride and he purchased his Honda Civic Si that he has now. He immediately began modifying it. “I purchased the Honda Civic Si right off the trailer at a local Honda dealer, with the help of local and distant sponsors I had already started modifying it,” he said.
After two weeks he had purchased the first set of wheels, offset XXR wheels with a 3 inch lip in the rear. He also purchased the Raven Style Body Kit and a tricked out with a black, red, and silver paint job. From then on, every time a new part came out for the car he had the money saved up to get it. “Parts for my Si were so incredibly expensive because the Civic Si was introduced with a new body style in 2006, so parts had not even come out yet,” he said.
After competing at Hot Import Nights in Phoenix, and learning how to modify his ride for speed and show, he added a carbon fiber OEM hood and trunk. “I decided to change out my Stock Wing to a carbon fiber Sniper Wing which made the rear look mean, all the carbon fiber looked nice and did wonders while driving at the race track with the weight loss,” he said.
In 2008, he started looking for performance parts and a flashy look for his car’s engine. He modified the engine with an AEM Cold Air Intake, Dc Race Headers, Dc Exhaust with carbon Fiber Muffler, Type R Valve cover, carbon fiber engine cover, Mishimoto radiator hosing and Optima battery. He also reinforced the Suspension with a rear tie bar, H-Bracket and Front Strut bar. For braking power, he added slotted performance rotors and performance brakes.
“Racing Precision Motorsports, (RPM) a local shop in El Paso, Texas helped me with most of my performance part modifications on my ride which put a lot of money back in my pocket.” Chris’s modifications didn’t end there, late 2008 he had his interior fiberglass and an Alpine System installed with Alpine Doubled-in-dash monitor and extra screen fiberglass at the shift knob area. Alpine type S speakers were fiber glassed into the doors and Custom Trunk box with Alpines Type R 12inch Sub and 600 Watt continuous output amp. “We wrapped the box in a red and black carbon fiber making it look a like material and installed a 20 inch flat-screen TV, the trunk idea was designed by me and Texas Boom Box.”
By the end of 2008 Chris and his ride were featured on Hot Import Nights TV show which aired on the Speed channel. He was competing and winning at almost all the shows he attended. He also took the name King Si when he competed on Hot Imports Nights.
The last couple add-ons he has done have been carbon splitters and canard, sponsor names on his ride, tinting his windows and headlights, the last major modification that was recently add was his Bride Racing Seats with the Harness.
Chris says that the Si has come along way in the past three years and he still plans to add a turbo on his ride in the near future.
When he plans to add that or made any new modification we will be sure to update you!
